Day 3: a poem that tells a lie

I'm using the NaPoWriMo prompt from day 2 because it went up this morning, my time. I think I'll stick to this one-day-behind approach & see how it goes. Today's (or Day 2's) instruction was to write a poem that tells a lie, that is all lies or that builds to a whopper at the end. Here's what I came up with.

The lovers’ lie

The moon is a balloon
a golden orb
of love, of loveliness
of longing, of light

The moon watches over lovers
in its care
a mindful eye
a wink, suggestive

Hinting at a heart overfull.
The moon’s care
attentive,
particular.

The moon casts a spell
on lovers alone
on lonely old pensioners
sweet and young once again

The moon is a disk,
a CD of mixed love songs
compiled by him
for her

The plastic cover catches
the light of the moon
—a reflection

All metaphors are lies
and your eyes are not
pools I will drown in.
